March 13, 2020
As we stated in the 3-11-2020 message, the status of the coronavirus (COVID-19) is changing daily and we continue to take a calm, proactive approach to our navigation of the situation. To ensure we are taking the appropriate steps to protect the health and well-being of our students, staff and families, we continue to be in daily communication with the Alachua County Health Department and we are actively monitoring information supplied by the CDC and WHO. As the Alachua County Health Department continues to test for cases, we will be informed immediately regarding any positive cases and will work with the Health Department staff to determine what, if any actions, need to be taken by MMS based on the particular situation.
MMS remains open:
Based on the guidance we have received; MMS will remain open. We are continuing to take recommended preventative measures, including an emphasis on handwashing and cleaning.
Please note the progression of COVID-19 is an evolving situation and, therefore, the recommendations also may change. We are monitoring everything carefully. In the meantime, the standard expectation for all students is that they do not return to school if they are ill.
The Florida Department of Health is advising all individuals who travel internationally to follow new guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines, which are:
• Level 3: CDC recommends 14-day self-isolation and social distancing upon return to the United States. Social distancing includes avoiding going out in public and close personal interactions. If you become symptomatic, immediately self-isolate and contact your County Health Department (CHD) or health care provider.
