Fourth and Fifth Grade Debate

In collaboration with Ms. Jennifer Kuntz’s Literature and Composition class and Ms. Sylvia Aslanian’s Debate class, the fourth and fifth grade students each participated in a debate related to what they’ve been studying in Language Arts. Fifth grade’s topic, “Hydroelectric Dams Are a Good Source of Energy”, explored the source of power that was used in the The City of Ember – and upon which the characters were completely dependent. Underground water also played a big part in the fourth grade’s novel Gregor the Overlander, so their debate topic, “Plastic Straws Should Be Banned” tied that to our upcoming Family Science Night about how our choices affect the world’s oceans.
